Mayor Elizabeth Carr-Hurst is the 18th and first African American female Mayor of Fairburn, Georgia. She was sworn in on January 8, 2018. In 2007, Mayor Carr-Hurst was elected to represent the City of Fairburn as its second African American female Councilwoman. She has been elected to three terms on the Fairburn City Council and served 10 years until she qualified to run unopposed for Mayor of Fairburn in 2017.

Mayor Carr-Hurst retired in 2010 from the State of Georgia after 25 years in Human Resources. She received the 2019 Mayor of the Year Award from the Georgia Minority Business. In 2020, she was elected as the 1st Vice President of the National League of Cities Women in Municipal Government, Chair of the National League of Cities Human Development Committee, member of the National League of Cities Small Cities Council and Chair of the Middle Chattahoochee Regional Water & Sewer Authority.

Mayor Carr-Hurst is the mother of two daughters, Dr. Kimberly Froelich, who passed in January after a lengthy battle with cancer and Rhonda Hurst. She is the proud grandmother of three grandchildren: Morgan, Raphael, and Christian, and a great grandmother to Rowan Elisabeth.
