Kimberly Smith is Director of the Planning and Community Development with the City of East Point Government. In this role, she manages and implements the City's Comprehensive Planning program and Zoning Ordinance policies. The P+CD department functions as the concierge of the built environment, as it encompasses the Building, Permitting, Business Licensing, and Inspections divisions of the Planning and Community Development Department for the city. So, from a project's concept to construction in coordination with various intergovernmental and external private and public partners, Kimberly works to provide efficient, effective and innovative service delivery to the East Point community. She has been with the City of East Point since July 2018.
 
Kimberly has 24 years of urban and regional planning experience. Prior to joining the City of East Point, she was the Zoning Administrator with Clayton County Government, Board of Commissioners and Planning and Zoning Director for Henry County Government, Board of Commissioners. Kimberly has also worked as a VP for Planning Development and a urban planning consultant for The Collaborative Firm and Urban Concepts focusing on intergovernmental relations and policy development.
 
Kimberly holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Social Welfare from the University of California at Berkeley and a master's degree in City Planning from The Georgia Institute of Technology. In addition, Kimberly is a 2011 REAP graduate, a 2020 American Planning Association Ambassador, member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and a Georgia Delegate for the APA Delegate Assembly.
