Jeff Metarko
Director of Transportation & Development

Clayton County

Jeff Metarko has worked for Clayton County Transportation and Development for over twenty-four years. The first nine years he worked in the Traffic Engineering Division overseeing daily operations of the County’s traffic signals, roadway signing and marking operation, and roadway safety programs. For the past fifteen years he has been the Director of Transportation and Development.

As Director, he oversees the operation of the largest non-public safety department within the County, with 166 employees.  Divisions in Transportation and Development include Public Works, Engineering Services, Traffic Engineering, County Fleet, County Landfill, and Administrative Services.  As Director, Jeff is responsible for planning, construction, maintenance, and operation of the County’s approximate 870 miles of roads.  Additionally, services are also provided to the individual municipalities as well as to the Georgia DOT and their State Route system within the County.  Jeff has been heavily involved in the day to day management of the County’s SPLOST programs since their inception in 2004.  Upon conclusion of the current SPLOST program combined with State and Federal grants, the County Transportation system will have received over half a billion dollars’ worth of investment.  In addition to roads and bridges, over his tenue with Clayton County, Jeff has also overseen the County’s Tara Field Airport and the County’s C-TRAN bus transportation system.  Currently, his responsibilities include the County’s Landfill and the County’s vehicle fleet.

Jeff earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree from Florida State University and his Masters of Science in Civil Engineering degree from Georgia Tech.  Jeff, his “native Atlantan” wife, Kim, and their four children reside in Peachtree City.
