Join the Council's Henry County Advisory Committee with Henry County Chair June Wood

June Wood retired from Georgia Power of Southern Company with 26.5 years of service.  Wood retired in 2013 as Georgia Power’s Metro South External Affairs Manager serving Butts, Clayton, Henry, South Fulton, Fayette and Coweta Counties.  Beginning in 2007 as the Metro South Region External Affairs Manager, Wood provided support for operations, sales, customer service, economic and community development to a region serving more than 255,000 customers.   
 
Wood earned a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in 1987. She has been affiliated with multiple professional organizations including the Association of Utility Professionals, American Association of Blacks in Energy, American Society of Civil Engineers, the Georgia 100 Mentoring Program and she is a graduate of the Georgia Economic Academy and the Regional Leadership Institute. 
 
Wood is the Past Chair of the Henry County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and previously served as the Henry County Chamber of Commerce’s Vice Chair of Government & Education, as well as the Chair of the Henry County Chamber’s Education Foundation.   Wood is the immediate past Chair of the Southern Crescent Technical College Board, and a member of the Piedmont Henry Hospital Board.  She is the Founder & CEO of the Virtuous Women Life Academy, a newly established non-profit created to help homeless working women and their children in the Metro South Area. Wood served on the Henry, Butts & Clayton United Way Advisory Board and the Communities In Schools of Henry County Board.
 
Wood served as the co-leader of Henry County’s Economics & Education (E2) Initiative which mobilized over 100 Henry County elected and appointed leaders, school system representatives, businesses, and other community stakeholders to improve student academic performance and workforce development.
