Join the Council's Henry County Advisory Committee with George Patterson, Building and Planning Director for Henry County. 
George Patterson serves as the Director of Building and Plan Review. In this position he is responsible for compliance inspections, permit issuance, creation of codes and practices, and maintenance of erosion control standards. His department’s jurisdiction extends from Henry County into the city of Stockbridge.

Born and raised in Atlanta, George received his B.S. in Civil Engineering and M.S. in Civil Engineering from Summit University. He first began his career with Henry County in February 2002 as a Development Inspector. During this time he was nearing retirement from the Army as Sergeant First Class. After his retirement in September 2002, George was promoted to Civil Engineer III and then Director of Environmental Compliance and Plan Review for Henry County.

George entered the Army in 1982 and was deployed to over five countries where he specialized in concrete and asphalt projects. His work with planning and construction includes notable humanitarian and natural disaster relief missions. During deployment to Operation Desert Shield/Desert Strom, George led the construction of all haul roads for unit movement for the invasion into Iraq. He has won numerous awards including Master Instructor status within the Instructor Certification and Development Program, Construction Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year, two Engineer of the Year Awards, three Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals, and the Bronze Oder of the DeFleury Medal which is one of the highest Engineer awards to be given. George is also a member of Masonic Prince Hall Lodge Hour Glass 113, Holy Royal Arch Mason XL Neal Chapter 118, Knights Templar St. Stephens Chapter 11, United Supreme Council 32 Consistory 209, and Shrine Imperial Council Omar Temple 21. He is a member of National Incidents Management System, FEMA Management, International Erosion Control Association, American Society of Civil Engineers American Public Works Association, US EPA Stormwater, and US army Corps of Engineers life time member.
