About Mayor Johnson:
Bucky Johnson began his tenure as Mayor of Norcross in 2008 and has been re-elected four times. Bucky serves on the Board of the Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful Advisory Board and as a School Board Member of the North Metro Performing Academy in Norcross. He is active in the Gwinnett Chamber, Partnership Gwinnett, the Southwest Gwinnett Chamber and the Norcross Cluster Partnership. He helped establish the “Mayors Book Club” in 2014 to help with literacy in the city.
 
Mayor Johnson is a graduate of the 2009 Class of Leadership Gwinnett and the 2009 Atlanta Regional Commission's Leadership Institute. In January of 2010, he received the Carl Vinson Institute's Certificate of Recognition for city elected officials.
 
In 2012, he received a Public Service Award from the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce and he was named Gwinnett County “Man of the Year” in 2011 by Gwinnett Magazine. Mayor Johnson received the Leadership Award of Excellence for his work in Economic Development by Partnership Gwinnett and the Outstanding Public Service and Leadership Award from the Latin American Association. He has participated in the Principal for a Day Program, Gwinnett Chamber Strategic Leadership visits and ARC LINK trips.
 
During his tenure as Mayor, he has served as Chairman of the Metro Atlanta Mayors Association, President and Vice President of the Gwinnett Municipal Association, a member and Chair of the Gwinnett Tech Board, the Gwinnett Mayoral representative to the ARC Board and the Chair of the Metro Atlanta Roundtable for the Transportation Investment Act. In addition, Bucky was instrumental in helping to resolve the Service Delivery case between the Gwinnett cities and county. He has also served on the Executive Board of the Georgia Municipal Association and as a member of their Legislative Committee.
 
A native of Atlanta, Bucky served as Director of Bands and Head of the Music Department at Georgia Tech until he retired in 2002 at which time he was named Professor Emeritus. He was also the Founder and Director of the 300-member Atlanta Olympic Band from 1992-1996. Currently, he and his wife, Janet, own and produce the Southern Star Music Festival in Atlanta. They have two married sons and three granddaughters.
