Forsyth County Board of Commissioner Cindy Jones Mills has served as a commissioner since being elected in 2012. She was re-elected in 2016 and again in 2020. Mills was elected by the Board of Commissioners to serve as vice chair in 2019 and 2020, chairwoman in 2021 and secretary in 2023.
She is the founder of the Forsyth County Drug Awareness Council and works with community leaders on mental health and suicide prevention. Mills also serves on the National Association of Counties (NACo) Health Steering Committee and was invited to NACo Headquarters in Washington, D.C. for a small, invitation-only roundtable discussion on emerging county-level strategies to prevent opioid misuse. In December 2020, she moderated a panel on mental health needs within our jails.
Chairwoman Mills is a founding member of the North Forsyth 400 Rotary Club and has successfully worked with the club to put green houses at all the schools in the North Forsyth Cluster to promote wellness and healthy living.
Cindy is the mother of two children, Megan Mills Bottoms and Courtney Mills Moore, and the proud grandmother of Brooklyn, Charlie, Maddox, Leana and Brynn. She is an active member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where she teaches Sunday school.
