Event Description:
Join the Council for Quality Growth's Forsyth Advisory Committee Meeting featuring Mayor Troy Brumbalow, City of Cumming.
Cumming Mayor Troy Brumbalow, who sworn into office on Jan. 2, 2018, is a professional builder and business owner. His current businesses include: A construction company, which Brumbalow founded in 1993; Planet Tan and Beyond on Market Place Boulevard, founded in 2008; and American Cabinets, founded in 2017 with custom cabinet maker, John Naves. He also founded a softball bat company in 1996.
A resident of Cumming for more than 45 years, Brumbalow graduated from South Forsyth High School in 1990 as the school’s first class president and valedictorian. He attended Gainesville State College before founding his construction company.
Brumbalow married his high school sweetheart, Jodie, and they have two children: Zach, a graduate of Forsyth Central High and current student at Mercer University; and Riley, a sophomore at Forsyth Central High School.
Serving the community has always been important to Brumbalow. He has volunteered at various helping hand food programs, and served as the sergeant at arms of the North Forsyth 400 Rotary Club.
One of his top goals for the City of Cumming in the long-term is bringing back the small-town, Southern charm of the City of Cumming through the creation of a walkable “City Center” filled with shops, restaurants, parks, walking trails, water features, and amphitheater. In 2018, Mayor and Council secured the site for the Center on approximately 75 acres off Hwy. 20, completed a Phase I Environmental Assessment of the property, named Dwell Design Studio to complete all architectural work on the project, and recently the Downtown Development Center appointed a City Center Property Manager. A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the City Center on Aug. 7, 2019. Recently, City Council approved Beltan Properties as the general contractor of the project and Vertical Earth to handle construction of the project, which is expected to open in the fall of 2021.
In addition to his work on the City Center, Brumbalow has also overseen revisions and additions to many City ordinances, and created new partnerships that will benefit the community. He also has added several new community events, such as “Fridays at the Fairgrounds,” which began in April 2018 on the third Friday of the month during warm weather, featuring food trucks, live music and other family-friendly activities. He also partnered with 37 Main and Rosati’s Pizza to create a new summer music series at the Fairgrounds, and expanded the City’s annual July 4th celebration into an all-day festival. He also brought the Cumming Christmas Parade back to downtown in 2018, followed by the City’s first Christmas festival at the Fairgrounds. Both of which saw huge crowds again in 2019.
