Commissioner Dennis T. Brown was elected in 2017 to serve as the District 2 commissioner, taking office in November to serve the remainder of the 2017-2020 term.
 
Commissioner Brown retired as a colonel from the Georgia National Guard/U.S. Army in 2010 following a 30-year military career. His experience includes diverse fields of infantry; aviation; tactical operations; intelligence; anti-terrorism; homeland security; safety management; sales, marketing and recruitment; public affairs; chemical; joint operations center operations; human resource management; and civil-military operations.
 
Brown returned from Afghanistan in 2010 after serving as civil-military officer for Combined Joint Task Force ?Phoenix? and then as Kabul Military Training Center chief of staff mentor and Forward Operating Base ?Alamo? chief of staff.  His duties included planning, organizing and executing civil-military operations and coordinating these activities with subordinate units and various non-governmental organizations and the Afghan people.
 
Commissioner Brown?s military education includes completion of the U.S. Air Force War College; the Department of Defense Information School, Public Affairs Qualification Course; the Combined Arms Staff College; the Command and General Staff College; the National Defense University Joint Professional Military Education II; and the U.S. Army Flight School, Helicopter and Fixed-Wing Qualifications. 
 
Dennis? civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa and a Master of Business Administration in International Business from Kennesaw State University. He also completed a course in Regional Economic and Leadership Development from the State of Georgia Academy for Economic Development.
 
Dennis? political experience includes serving as the Republican Party 21st precinct chair; Forsyth County and National GOP member; 7th Congressional District Convention delegate; Forsyth County to State GOP Convention delegate; Republican Leadership for Georgia graduate; Conservative Policy Leadership Institute graduate of the 2011 class; lifetime member of the Republican National Committee; and a graduate of the Jekyll Island Management Institute.
    
His affiliations include service as post commander for American Legion Post 307 in Cumming; member of the Kennesaw State University Criminal Justice Advisory Council; graduate of the Leadership Forsyth Graduate class of 2004; member of the Old Guard of the Gate City Guard; and life member of the Association of the U.S. Army, National Guard Association of the U.S., National Guard Association of Georgia, Military Officers Association of America, Reserve Officers Association, Military Order of the World Wars and Reserve Officers Association.
 
Dennis and his wife Suzy live in Cumming and attend the First Redeemer Church. They have two children and three grandchildren.
