Barry Lucas was appointed to serve as Director of the Forsyth County Water and Sewer Department on May 10, 2021 following the retirement of long time director Tim Perkins.  Barry previously served as Deputy Director for the Forsyth County Water & Sewer Department since 2002. In that role, he was responsible for managing all engineering related activities for the department, including master planning, project planning, project management and construction of all capital improvement projects. Barry also managed several programs including development review, the sewer flow monitoring program, easement and property acquisition among others.  

Prior to working for Forsyth County, Barry worked for PBS&J as a project engineer from 1994-1996.  He served in the US Navy on active duty from 1985-1994, and continued his military career in the Navy Reserve until his retirement in 2016.   He is a graduate of The Citadel with a degree in civil engineering.  He and his wife Lisa have lived in Forsyth County since 1994, and have 3 children.
