Join the Council for Quality Growth's DeKalb County Advisory Roundtable on April 4th at 8:30 AM in-person at Druid Hills Golf Club to hear an update from Maria Houser on DeKalb County's water system.

Maria Houser serves as the first Director of Environmental Compliance for DeKalb County Georgia as well as the Director of the Capital Improvement Program for all water programs.  Specifically, under the direction of the County’s CEO, she now leads the implementation of the $1.8 billon wastewater system improvements as required by the Consent Decree, the $1.7 billon drinking water system upgrades and the multimillion dollar stormwater rehabilitation. Moreover, she leads the strategic sessions regarding master planning, project identification, project prioritization, technology innovation, work force analysis, budgeting, and funding options with a cross departmental team. She provides strategic direction regarding environmental permitting and compliance efforts with federal, state, and local environmental regulations for County operations (primarily in the Departments of Watershed Management and Roads & Drainage/Stormwater but also including Fleet, Sanitation, Fire Rescue, Facilities and Recreation, Parks & Cultural Affairs).

She has undergraduate and graduate degrees in mechanical engineering from GA Tech as well as a master’s in business administration.  She is an attorney who practiced environmental and natural resources law at the Troutman Sanders LLP law firm prior to joining DeKalb County.
