John McHenry
Community & Economic Development Director, City of Tucker
As the Community & Economic Development Director, John is responsible for overseeing all planning, zoning and code enforcement activities, as well as coordinating economic development efforts for the City of Tucker. John was the first Community Development Director for the recently formed City of Tucker and played an instrumental role in the development of the City’s effective land use review process. The focus of the Community Development department is ensuring with an integrated strategy of zoning, planning, code enforcement and economic development, the City can leverage existing resources for responsible and sustainable development. Economic development efforts focus on outreach to existing business, support of a regionally significant industrial center, a burgeoning downtown, as well as a redeveloping Northlake area with increasing retail and residential opportunities.
In previous positions, he was a Community Development Director for the City of Flowery Branch, the Program Director at the Gwinnett Village Community Improvement District and worked in various planning and advocacy roles for regional agencies, engineering firms and trade organizations. John enjoys applying his background to creating livable, sustainable and economically strong communities. John is a member of the Gwinnett Development Advisory Committee and a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners. This fall, John McHenry became a member of the Leadership DeKalb Class of 2020. When not at work, he can be found spending time with his wife and four children.
