Bob Weatherford and his family have lived in Cobb County for 19 years. He is active in local charities as one of the cofounders of "Shop with a Hero." In 2004, Weatherford and his wife Lori were named "2004 Acworth Citizens of the Year" at the Cobb Chamber breakfast He served for 12 years as an Acworth Alderman and Mayor Pro Tem before resigning to run successfully for the Cobb County Commission seat in District One.
Weatherford was a reserve police officer for more than 20 years and spent the last eight at Acworth Police Department, including several years as its captain before becoming a city councilman. He has been honored with two “Silver Stars for Bravery” from the American Police Hall of Fame and was the Cobb Chamber Officer of the Year in 1997, as well as the VFW Officer of the Year.
Weatherford served as president of the Cobb Municipal Association and on the Board of Directors for Georgia Municipal Association. He has completed sufficient training courses from The Carl Vincent Institute of Government at the University of Georgia to earn the “Certificate of Excellence” award. He is an alumnus of the 2005 Cobb Chamber "Leadership Cobb" program along with the Atlanta Regional Commission Leadership Institute and was a member of the "Honorary Commanders” 2003 program.
He has served on many boards and authorities including Cobb Travel and Tourism Board of Directors, Chattahoochee Tech Foundation Board, KSU Advisory Board and various others. Weatherford served in the USMC Reserves after college and is active in veteran causes. He is also active in the Patriot Guard and a member of American Legion Post 304 in Acworth.
Weatherford has a Bachelor of Arts degree in math from Huntingdon College in Montgomery and spent most of his career in the high tech field, with more than 20 years at Amdahl and STK Corporations in consulting and professional services sales. He now works part time for the Department of Driver’s Services teaching motorcycle safety courses on weekends.
