Join the Council for Quality Growth's Cherokee Advisory Committee Meeting featuring Jeff Watkins, Director of Planning and Zoning for Cherokee County.
Jeff Watkins has over 25 years of experience as a planning professional in the Metro Atlanta region from his work with Cherokee and Forsyth Counties. His career in Planning started in the City of Stone Mountain shortly after graduation from Georgia State University’s School of Urban Studies where he received his Master degree in Urban Studies- Community Development and Urban Planning. He holds a Bachelors degree from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. Prior to entering graduate school, he worked several years in management positions with Milliken and Company in Spartanburg, SC and Black and Decker in Easton, MD.
Jeff began his career with Cherokee County in March of 2003 as Director of Planning and Zoning. Jeff was responsible for the design and development of the Development Service Center in the County Administration Building. The Center is a One Stop service counter where customers can receive a number of services through one representative.
Prior to coming to Cherokee County, Jeff served as Director of Planning and Development in Forsyth County where he was responsible for overseeing the growth of a the department from 2 planners to a staff of over 40 people. He began his career with Forsyth as a Senior Planner and later became Director with the Department.
Jeff served a term as President of the Georgia Planning Association, a professional organization of nearly 1,000 planners around the state committed to creating great communities In addition, he has served on numerous committees such as the Regional Development Plan Team at ARC, the Fifty Forward committee envisioning the future of the Metro Atlanta area in 50 years, and the Legislative Committee of the Georgia Planning Association.
Jeff is a resident in Northwest Forsyth County, where he and his wife are raising four children.
