Event Description:
Join the Council for Quality Growth's Cherokee Advisory Committee Meeting featuring Bethany Watson, PE, AICP - Development Services Manager and Brittany Anderson, AICP - Planner for the City of Canton. 

Bethany Watson serves as the Development Services Manager, she has been with the City for 6.5 years. Bethany has over 11 years of experience in municipal engineering and development. In her position with the City of Canton, she is responsible for land disturbance permit issuance, compliance inspections, creation of development codes and practices and maintenance of erosion control standards. Along with managing all land disturbing activity, Bethany is also responsible for monitoring traffic and transportation concerns across the City. Her current projects of note include: design and development of the two phases under construction of the Etowah River Trail Extension and currently under design of the Downtown Parking Deck. 

In 2009, Bethany graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. She currently holds a Professional Engineering License in the State of Georgia and is certified with the American Institute of Certified Planners. Bethany currently resides in Ball Ground, Georgia with her husband and 5 children.


Brittany has over six years of planning knowledge and experience gained through various technical and leadership roles in the community development, zoning administration, and long-range planning disciplines. She began her career as a Planning Technician with the City of Sandy Springs, Georgia, which gave her an exceptional outlook and understanding of planning fundamentals. Applying these skills, Brittany was able to move forward in her career by receiving a promotion with the City of Sandy Springs, Georgia and securing a senior level position with the City of Chamblee, Georgia.

Brittany is currently the Community Development Planner for the City of Canton, Georgia, where she contributes to the organizational structure and assists the Director in formulating and implementing the department?s policies and procedures. As the Community Development Planner, Brittany was primarily responsible for managing the workflow of the City?s major ten-year Comprehensive Plan update which was approved by the City in early 2019 and providing support to the director, city administrators, city council members, planning policy boards, and the public.

Brittany is a 2019 graduate of the Regional Economic and Leadership Development class of Georgia Academy for Economic Development. Brittany is a member of American Planning Association, Georgia Planning Association, and Georgia Association of Zoning Administrators.

Brittany has earned a bachelor?s degree in political science from Fort Valley State University and master?s degree in urban and regional planning from Alabama A&M University.
